Arctic fox numbers on a small island in the Bering Sea are crashing - and mercury poisoning may be to blame. The isolated nature of the island means that their entire diet consists of marine organisms. The numbers decline on the previously populated island was thought to be from introduced diseases, but a study has found high mercury levels in the foxes.
